Locals-to-be Mildrid and Kjersti

For Mildrid and Kjersti, the wish to live closer to the mountains and the ski slopes was the deciding factor when they chose to move to Voss. With Voss Resort as their nearest neighbour, they found a daily life where it is easy to get outdoors, and where skiing has become a natural part of living. They have never looked back.

A choice guided by the mountains

Moving somewhere purely to be close to perfect skiing terrain may not be something everyone would consider, but for Mildrid it felt obvious. She weighed up places like Oppdal and Lillehammer, but Voss stood out as the ideal alternative. After securing a job at Voss Hospital, she packed her things, moved – and she has not regretted it for a single moment.

– I lived in Sunnmøre and skied a lot, but the distances were long with ferries and driving. Impatient as I was, I looked at the map to find a place with good skiing and a hospital. I am an intensive care nurse and needed close access to both,” says Mildrid.

«"More enthusiastic than the kids"»

Kjersti was an adult when she moved to Voss. Standing on top of Slettafjellet for the first time, she did not dare to ski down – but now it is easy. After countless hours on the slopes with her children, Kjersti has become a proper ski racer, making full use of her season pass whenever the weather cooperates.

– I am now more enthusiastic than my own children, but my grandchildren, the ten‑year‑olds, they glide away from me,” she laughs.

Moving for what gives you energy

Skiing gives both of them energy, mastery and joy – even though they use the mountains in different ways. One prefers soft powder, the other loves well‑groomed trails. What they share is the joy of reaching the mountains quickly and taking advantage of the good conditions at Voss Resort, often together.

– It is fun to play, and it gives me so much energy. I really love nature – it gives me peace and relaxation,” says the ever‑cheerful Mildrid.

Real skiing since 1948

«"Get the ski lift, I guarantee the rest of the money," said an anonymous Vossing in the spring of 1947. And we have not looked back since.
