Paragliding in Voss Resort
Voss is a paragliders paradise and one of the best places for paragliding in western Norway and Norway.
The reason for that is due to the following considerations:
- A mountain gondola that takes you to the top off the mountain (opening summer 2019)
- South facing start with good thermals
- Approximately 600 meters in vertical
- Main landing field in the middle of town by the lake “Vagnsvatnet”
- Distance flying in many directions
Important information regarding closed areas:
Until 1st July 2019, the area around Hangurstoppen (820 masl) is a construction site. This is due to the new mountain gondola which will open later in July 2019. Please pay attention and respect the closed areas (marked with signs and fences).
Get to the top in no time:
In July 2019, our new mountain gondola will open. Starting at Voss Station (56 masl), the gondola will bring you to Hangurstoppen (820 masl) in less than 7 minutes. Read more about our new gondola and the activities around Hangurstoppen, on the website for Voss Gondol.
During Ekstremsportveko 2019, you can also use our Express lift in Bavallen. See more about the express lift here.
South facing start at Hanguren
The paragliding take off is located at 200 vertical meters on the right side of Hangursrestauranten. The take-off is located on a nice grassy, relative flat area that ends up in a marked triangle. Since the take-off is south facing, you will be able to enjoy all the thermals that the mountainside creates. Early in the day, you will find the thermals in the western corner, just to the left of the wind socket. Later in the day you will find them over the lift mast forward of the Hangursrestaurant. Note! Remember to stay clear of the cables.
In the afternoon, the breeze will pick up. You will therefore get side winds at the take-off and it adds more risks to your flight. Problems during landing can also occur. If you pay attention to the lake «Vangsvatnet» you will see when the wind is changing. Fly down in time!
